Urology
The department of urology provides care for patients at both Central Middlesex and Northwick Park Hospitals. It provides full diagnostic and outpatient services at both sites with day and short stay surgery at Central Middlesex, and day, short stay and complex surgery at Northwick Park. Northwick Park is a designated centre for urological cancers.
Description of service
We offer a full range of services which cover a wide variety of conditions.
Key hole and cancer surgery
We provide a full range of minimally invasive (key hole) surgery.
Laser urology
We are the only Trust in west London to offer the second generation HPS Green Light Laser system as an NHS treatment. This offers patients suffering from BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) a shorter length of stay and less risk of post-operative bleeding than traditional surgical methods. We also offer laser treatment for stone disease (kidney stones) and removal of small bladder tumours at Central Middlesex Hospital.
Cryotherapy
We are currently the only Trust in west London offering the NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) approved salvage cryotherapy treatment for recurrent prostate cancer following radiotherapy. This is a new, minimally invasive treatment that freezes the prostate and destroys recurrent cancer.
Stone disease (kidney stones)
We provide a full-spectrum stone service including outpatient treatments and minimally invasive ureteroscopic treatment.
Female urology
We offer major reconstructive surgery (one of only three centres in London) including bladder enlargement surgery and complex fistula surgery. We were one of the first centres in the UK to offer botox treatment for bladder problems including incontinence and remain one of the few centres in London to offer this treatment to NHS patients.
