Paediatrics
Paediatric Services at The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust are provided on both of our hospital sites Northwick Park Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital.
These services provide access to paediatric specialist doctors and nurses.
Description of service
The service at Northwick Park Hospital provides inpatient beds on Jack’s Place children’s ward, which also has a daycare unit.
Our dedicated children’s accident and emergency department is within main A&E and has an adjacent observation unit.
Children are seen by dedicated paediatric staff 24 hours a day. Paediatric outpatient clinics take place in the children’s outpatient department (on Chaucer unit).
The Northwick Park site also has a dedicated neonatal intensive care unit for children born prematurely or newborn babies with other problems.
The service at Central Middlesex Hospital
The service for seriously ill children at Central Middlesex Hospital is transferring to Northwick Park from November 25.
Many other services will remain at Central Middlesex, including:
- children’s outpatients (such as daytime services for children with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia)
- the Brent Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre
- planned daytime transfusion services for children with Sickle Cell or Thalassaemia
- Paediatric day surgical service, Monday - Friday providing day surgery facilities for children
The GP-led urgent care centre will continue to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It already assesses and treats about nine out of ten children who visit the hospital.
Locations
Northwick Park and St Mark's Hospitals
The children's unit (Jack's Place and Chaucer unit) is on level 3 of the main ward block. Children's A&E is part of the main A&E department at the front of the hospital.
Central Middlesex Hospital
The Rainbow Children's Unit is located on the ground floor of the hospital, to the right of the main entrance or to the left of A&E.
