Microbiology
Microbiology is the study of infections. Within The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust microbiologists and laboratory staff are crucial in the diagnosis and treatment of infections, as well as being vital in the control of hospital acquired infections.
Description of service
The microbiology department processes approximately 1,400 specimens a day isolating and identifying bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites that cause human disease. In addition to routine bacterial, fungal and viral culture investigations, we provide advice about treatment of infections and infection control, serological investigations and parasite identification.
