Gastroenterology
Our gastroenterology department is an internationally renowned centre of clinical excellence. The department has clinics at the Trust's three hospitals – St Mark's, Central Middlesex and Northwick Park – and provides an extensive range of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services.
We are delighted to see both local and nationally referred patients.
Description of service
We offer services to patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, functional bowel disorders, nutritional disorders and hepatobiliary disorders. We also have a world renowned endoscopic service offering diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies.
Our inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) service offers multidisciplinary care from physicians, surgeons, specialist nurses, dieticians and paediatricians. We also run a transition clinic for adolescents with IBD. Our services are based in the centre of excellence at St Mark's Hospital, currently celebrating its 175th anniversary of outstanding services to patients with bowel diseases. We are delighted to see both local and nationally referred patients.
The functional bowel disease service offers physiological testing and specialist nurse input suitable for the whole range of functional disorders. We are unique in offering biofeedback services and psychological support.
The intestinal failure unit, run by an excellent multidisciplinary team, offers care for patients with nutritional disorders including home parenteral nutrition.
The hepatobiliary service offers diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of liver and biliary disorders including viral hepatitis. We also have an endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography (ERCP) service.
The Wolfson endoscopy unit offers diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies. It is a world centre of excellence, additionally offering double balloon enteroscopies and video capsule endoscopies.

Gastroenterology clinics are held in St Mark's Hospital outpatient area, on level 3 of the St Mark's building.
Endoscopy is based in the Wolfson unit, level 3 of St Mark's Hospital.
Central Middlesex Hospital
Clinics are held in the Gastroenterology & GI Surgery Centre on the first floor.
Endoscopy is based in the ACAD Centre on the first floor within the theatre suite.
