Cancer Services
The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust has a dedicated cancer unit, working in partnership with other local cancer centres such as Mount Vernon Hospital and Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust.
We care for a large number of new cancer patients every year from those newly diagnosed through to patients cured or those requiring palliative care. Patients with suspected cancer are seen on an emergency basis within two weeks of a GP referral.
We also have a specialist palliative care team which provides advice to patients and healthcare professionals at the Trust. The goal of palliative care is to achieve the best quality of life for patients with any advanced life-limiting illness and to support their families and carers. The specialist palliative care team provides advice on the management of physical symptoms and addresses psychosocial, emotional and spiritual needs, thus enabling the patient to maximise their potential, and maintain personal choice and dignity.
Northwick Park Hospital hosts the Macmillan cancer information and support centre where patients can receive free information and support from a dedicated team of clinical nurse specialists.
Description of service
We aim to provide the highest quality services for cancer patients to ensure that immediate and long term health needs are met and patients reach an optimal state of health and realise the full potential of clinical outcomes. Where this is not possible the service seeks to deliver high quality end of life experience to patient and family.

- Lower GI
- Lung
- Urology
- Paediatrics
- Head and neck
- Haematology
In addition, there are regular general oncology outpatient clinics run by clinical oncologists.
A range of treatments are offered for all the above cancers. Chemotherapy is administered in the chemotherapy unit on a day case basis.
Further supportive care is available from a team of Macmillan nurses based at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex Hospital. Patients requiring radiotherapy are referred to either Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust or Mount Vernon Hospital.
