Breast Services
The department of Breast Services at The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust is a busy one, providing one top clinics, breast surgery and specialist support for patients within the boroughs of Brent and Harrow.
Description of service
The breast service offers a wide range of breast diagnostic and surgical procedures. This can include access to triple assessment clinics, where patients can often have all the neccessary tests undertaken in the same appointment.
One stop clinics
The purpose of a one stop clinic is to ensure that patients attending an appointment are given access to three critical diagnostic assessments. These assessments can include the following:
- Clinical evaluation to establish diagnosis
- Access to radiology and pathology testing, including mammogram, ultrasound and tissue sampling
- Fine needle aspiration of any suspicious lymph nodes
The breast services team form part of the UK leaders in running clinics of this type, enabling many patients to leave their appointments with results or diagnosis.
About your appointment in the breast clinic
On receipt of a referral from your GP, the hospital will contact you with an appointment date to see a consultant at the hospital. You will be under the care of the consultant named on your clinic letter and will be seen by either the consultant or a member of their clinical team.
The breast cancer service at the Trust functions as part of the West London Cancer Network and manages all patients with proven or suspected pre-malignant and malignant breast cancers.
This service is further supported by the Macmillan support team who have offices located within the Trust.
