Bereavement services

Bereavement is a normal life experience and many people may not need additional support at this time, as bereavement affects people in different ways. Working through the pain of grief and coming to terms with loss are vital tasks which affect future mental and physical health. Awareness of this has led to a growing number of bereavement services, from general bereavement befriending to specialist professional counselling. Your needs may be dependant on how significant or even traumatic the death was, and what support networks are available. More information on bereavement can be found in this leaflet.

Our service

Our bereavement service consists of staff who can support relatives provide advice on community bereavement support agencies and arrange follow up meetings with hospital staff.

The team co-ordinate all of the paperwork that needs to be completed after a person's death, such as the medical cause of death certificate and the necessary cremation forms. They liaise with medical and nursing staff, funeral directors, H.M. Coroner’s office, the Registry office and various other outside agencies. They also ensure safekeeping of valuable items brought into the hospital.
