Top performing HIV service
HIV services at Central Middlesex and Northwick Park Hospitals are among the top performers in the capital. A recent audit by the Health Protection Agency of all HIV services in London shows the Trust rates above average in three out of the four criteria for clinical outcomes and meets the standards for all four.
Dr Gary Brook clinical lead for GUM and HIV services said “we are delighted our data quality was ranked as excellent and on time, one of only four London Trusts out of 29 to achieve this, and the HPA said the audit results reflected the high quality of data and care. This is a credit to the hard work of staff.”
The clinical criteria and outcomes:
1: proportion of newly diagnosed patients who have a CD4 count done within four weeks of diagnosis. We scored 98% (London average 92%). This is a measure of how quickly patients are seen and treated following diagnosis.
2: number of patients retained in care (not lost to follow up) for at least a year we scored 97% (London average 88%)
3: proportion of patients who have an undetectable HIV viral load within a year of starting treatment we scored 98% (London average 92%)
4: proportion of patients with a CD4 count >200 after one or more years’ care. - we achieved 94% (the standard was 90%)
