Inaugural inflammatory bowel disease open day
The inaugural inflammatory bowel disease Open Day for patients and their families took place on 12 November at St Mark’s Hospital. The day was set up in conjunction with the IBD Patient Panel and the team at St Mark’s Hospital, with the aim of raising awareness of inflammatory bowel diseases and the specialist services available.
The Open Information Day included stands from a range of hospital departments and a series of talks by hospital consultants and specialist nursing staff. Presentations included the recent advances in the medical and surgical management of the disease and how the restructuring of the NHS will affect sufferers of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Approximately 160 people attended and feedback was positive.
“Absolutely amazing! I was so moved by the support and dedication the team at St Marks have/are providing to people with IBD…thank you.”
“This has been a very informative day, as parents of a newly diagnosed son we have learnt a lot about Crohn’s disease and the treatment & services offered. It has been great to speak to professionals on a one-to-one basis – Well done & thanks you very much.”
Marian O’Connor, Lead IBD Specialist Nurse and one of the event’s organisers said “I would like to thank everyone who supported us, the day was such an amazing success that we at St Mark’s & the IBD Patient Panel are in complete agreement that this Open Information Day should be an annual event.”
