NWLH appoints new Chairman

The Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Moira Black CBE as Chairman for the Trust.

Health care has been an area of particular interest for Moira for a number of years. Her first appointment, in 1992, was as a non-executive director of West London Healthcare NHS Trust.  In 1993 she was appointed Chairman of Riverside Community Health Care NHS Trust.  In 1999 she stood down as chairman and became a non-executive director of the North West London Hospitals. In 1998 Moira was appointed CBE for services to consumers and to health care.
 
Moira Black is currently also Chairman of the National Lottery Commission; a non-executive director of the Financial Services Authority and past chairman of the FSA Pension Fund Trustees; a non-executive director of Octagon Healthcare Limited and of the Warship Support Agency; and Honorary Treasurer of the General Optical Council.

Moira was formerly Chairman of Consumer Communications for England and a member of the Consumer Panel set up by the Director General of Telecommunications to advise him in a number of areas including Oftel's long term strategy.  She was also a Trustee of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and a Council member of the Foundation for Management Education. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and was a partner in Price Waterhouse from 1984 to 1993.

On confirmation of her appointment Moira Black said, “I’m absolutely delighted, We have seen improvement in our performance recently but we recognise we still have a great deal to do to improve the patients’ experience of our services. I am confident that, with the excellent senior management team we have, and with staff support we will soon provide the first class services in every area that local people can be proud of."

Mrs Black will be paid remuneration at the rate of £21,882 and her appointment will run from 1 July 2004 to 30 June 2008. Moira has no political affiliations and has not held any other ministerial appointments.

Moira takes over from Alastair McDonald who has been the Trust Chairman since 1999.
