Death rates at The North West London Hospitals rated among lowest in the country

Mortality rates at The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust are among the lowest in country, according to the Dr Foster Hospital Guide 2011, published on November 28.
Peter Coles, Interim Chief Executive of the Trust, which manages Northwick Park, St Mark’s and Central Middlesex hospitals, said: “We are delighted that we have maintained our excellent record on mortality rates for the fifth year running and that we are among the top 21 trusts in the country.
“Mortality rates are an important indicator of the quality of care patients receive and this is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff.”
The Good Hospital Guide shows that the Trust ‘exceeded expected’ rates with an overall mortality rate of 85.8 in 2010/2011. The national average is 100.
The independent healthcare survey by Dr Foster intelligence assesses hospital performance on a range of patient safety measures. This year the guide reviewed staff levels and the Trust was among the best performers in the country for the number of nursing staff in elderly care.
In addition, it is listed as one of the NHS trusts with the best record of responding to comments on the internet, as well as better than expected outcomes for early supported discharge for hip and knee replacements.
