New Chairman appointed for the Trust

The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the largest combined acute and specialist Trusts in the capital and serving a local population of over half a million people in the boroughs of Brent and Harrow, is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Chairman, Tony Caplin, who joins the Trust on 1 July 2008.
Tony has extensive leadership experience in both the public and private sectors, having developed his career in the newspaper industry to become Managing Director of the Manchester News followed by three further Chief Executive positions. He also served as Chairman of five organisations, was a Non Executive Director of six organisations and as a Commissioner of the Public Works Loan Board. As a company recovery specialist, he turned around some 100 companies to secure the futures of both the businesses and the people who worked there.
In 1997, Tony became a Non Executive Director and subsequently Vice Chairman of The Barts and London NHS Trust, after which he was appointed as Chairman of Ealing NHS Trust.
Commenting on his appointment, Tony said: ‘I am excited and enthusiastic about the challenges ahead: to build our top team with the Chief Executive, to continue to improve our partnerships with local stakeholders; and to take the organisation forward to Foundation Trust status. I will want to get out and about and meet staff, service users and partners as quickly as possible. As someone who is passionate about the NHS, I am determined that the Trust should balance its duties to provide high quality services through a loyal and committed workforce whilst discharging its responsibilities for the public purse”.
Tony will serve for a term of four years until 30 June 2012. Annual remuneration for the post is £22,525. This appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice.
Tony no longer holds other ministerial appointments but is the former Chairman of Ealing Hospital NHS Trust.
All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public.Tony has undertaken political activity for the Conservative Party.
He is currently Chairman of City Stockbrokers Panmure Gordon Plc, married with two children, both girls.
